Guangzhou Days 3
Maima Street runs from the Sacred Heart Cathedral to Haizhu South Road. It’s called a street but it’s really just a narrow alley lined with an eclectic mix of little shops and stalls. Get your keys cut, buy some tea, order some food and eat it sitting on rickety plastic chairs on the narrow pavement. Watch the scooters and bicycles whizzing by.
Guangzhou was formerly known as Canton and when I visit neighbourhoods like this, somehow it feels more like Canton than Guangzhou. This is a world away from the neighbourhood I live in which is very much Guangzhou. While my neighbourhood is very comfortable, it is a little soulless, which makes visiting and photographing places like this all the more pleasing.
